Creating a romantic Bedroom

So, I should say first, that my original intent on this post was to lay out the perfect plans for a romantic room. I found oodles of pictures to use as examples, just the right lighting, candles, perfectly made bed, no clutter. Some articles suggested many keys to creating a romantic room, and I agreed with nearly all their points...again, candles, perfectly made bed, no clutter on dressers only beautiful things should be displayed, no nail clippers, bills, papers, etc...
So, I got to work in our room. I sorted and folded and actually put the clothes into drawers. I cleaned my husbands dresser, putting the stack of bills inside instead of resting on top of our wedding album. I fixed the bed just so. Then I looked over at my daughters changing table. How am I going to romance this baby up?  You see our tiniest, our 18 month old daughter,  is still in our room. Well, I thought, she is too big for the changing table part, so I'll take the changing pad off (which brought a tear to my eye) and turn it into a dresser. I collected all her books from around my room and arranged them just so. Put all her clothes neatly in her baskets. And set her first little stuffed animal, a pink bunny next to her books. Not very romantic I though for a moment. hmmm.
I turned around and looked at her crib, just a few feet from our bed. Which was so nicely made. Little corners of kids socks, and plastic toys peaked out from underneath, and the baby's pacifier I had been looking for all night hiding under there too. I sat on the bed and glanced over at the humidifier on my night stand, the saline and nose squeegie that I had been using the entire sleepless night before, sitting right next to it. My older daughters Barbie dress hanging out a bit from the drawer. In my top dresser drawer a pokemon card my son gave me, eczema creams, report cards, figurines and receipts from Christmas scattered over my negligee.
THIS is romance. Truly, these precious babies are my reminder of the deep love my husband and I share. There is nothing more romantic than this reality we have. Our dreams are our reality. Yes, I am enjoying this newly cleaned room! But, I know it will only last a few hours before socks, and school uniforms and diapers will take over. And that's a beautiful thing:)
Today I have redefined my romantic dream room. Plastic toys and all, it's everything I've always wanted and our room is a celebration of that. -samantha
